Why does my dog loves to lick me
Gee, my dog is licking my face again. Make no mistake about the fact that this four legged and furry baby is loved but the raspy tongue and the revolting drool on my face is really disgusting. Licking is one of the ways by which dogs can learn about their environment but this pet of mine really takes a big slice of the cake when it comes to licking.
Licking is a normal behavior of dogs. Mother dogs would lick the puppies clean. The puppies will be licked clean by the dam after they have pooped and peed. Licking is believed to aid in the digestive and circulation processes of the puppies. Puppies on the other hand, have learned to lick the mother dog whenever they want to nurse. Puppies will be seen licking the mouth of the dam to encourage regurgitation. You can be sure that your pet loves you because licking is done to show affection. Mother dogs would instinctively lick puppies that have crawled away from the littermates. Puppies will be seen licking the dam and the littermates.
Dogs would normally show their affection by licking. Because of the affectionate nature, dogs are considered as members of the family. Humans become the family of the dog thus, the licking that is a manifestation of affection will now be given to the family. This is one of the reasons why your pet licks you. It will be noted that dogs that do not receive the same care and affection from their owners would not have the inclination to lick their owners.
Dogs are pack oriented animals. Being pack oriented, the dog would have to look up to the leader of the pack. Your pet recognizes you as the leader of the pack because licking is a sign of submission. Licking is one of the ways by which a dog can have the approval or the attention of the master. Dogs in a household with more pets often manifest the need to secure the affection of the master. Licking can be a dog’s tactic wanting to get the favors of the master.
Licking though can be a less than pleasant habit of a pet that also has the inclination to eat feces and other things considered disgusting by humans. Dogs also have an unaccountable fondness for the water in toilet bowls. Because of these habits, the pet would not think you do not value its affection by trying to curb its licking behavior.
